Shrimps.
Karen sealed the concrete pavers.
2016/08/21 23:00 I went to the latest Sub Rosa session at SubCat Studios tonight. Had a wonderful time as always.
and a Dark N Stormy - heavy on the Cruzan Blackstrap.
We ate pizza at Bosco's. I had bought these big lemonades for 8 bucks a pop. I told the kids they had to share the lemonades; I only bought two. Tristan said he wasn't sharing with Alice unless she wiped her face. So Alice buried her face in the pizza like she was bobbing for apples.
Winnie.
Watkins Glen International Raceway.
Karen did a great job getting the polymeric sand into the joints and then activated with water.
Walking back to the car we passed a fountain. Tristan asked me for two pennies so that he and Alice could make wishes. I told him that all I had were quarters. He said, “We will have to make really big wishes”. When he was done he told me that he couldn’t tell me what he wished for because then it wouldn’t come true. But, he assured me, it was the best wish he had ever made and he really hoped that it would come true.
Shark Attack!!
The pavers are all in place. Once the mortar dries the next step is to put polymer sand into the joints.

2016/08/18 14:30 There are only a couple of weeks left this Summer. I will probably get the pool looking perfect just in time to close it up.
Today is the tenth anniversary of my heart attack. I was very lucky and got a second lease on life. As near death events go this one was a life altering experience for me. I think about everything I would have missed. In the last ten years I have seen three grandchildren born. I quit my job and took an early out. I have traveled. Been to seven Hukilaus, six Ohanas in Lake George, Festiki, four Hot Rod Hula Hops, two times to Miami Rum Renaissance. I am going to my second Ohana by the Sea this year. I rode the bus for the Northeast Tiki Tour, the Bridge and Tunnel Tiki Tour, and the Chicago Area Tiki Tour. I joined the FOM (Fraternal Order of Moai). I have made friends. I have tried to use the extra time allotted to me the best I could. I plan to keep going as long as I can. No one cheats death in the end. I got a temporary reprieve. To all my friends I say, remember, tomorrow is only a possibility not a guarantee. Live, laugh, love!
2016/07/31 20:00 We went to the Sterling Renaissance Faire today.
What a cute little girl.
I am feeling pretty good about things. I think I have found some new energy. I finished a carving I started a long time ago and that seems to have jump started me a little bit. I think for almost a year I didn't do anything the least bit creative. I was in a pretty good funk. After getting back from Hot Rod Hula Hop I feel rejuvenated. Let's see if I can keep things going. To that end I updated my Gallery page. I made it mobile friendly and added my latest carving. I will little by little update all the pages on the site. That could take awhile. There are over one hundred pages.
More work done on the pool landscaping.
2016/07/21 18:00
2016/08/26 09:00 Today is National Dog Day.
Tristan has his eyes on the cupcakes.
2016/08/22 21:00 Mark was over today working on upgrading my electric. He worked on it yesterday also. Yesterday he moved everything from the old fuse panel over to the new breakers. The old panel is out and ready for the trash. Today he dug a trench and put the new conduit in for the pool. Elliott hung out with Karen while the work progressed. When Adison got out of work she came over. I went and got take-out from King Davids and we had a nice meal in the back yard.
This latest iteration of my rants and rambles will be much like past versions. I will share too much information, I will be boring, and I am so very weird. I disappoint myself and I am not really concerned about disappointing others. If you lower your expectations you may enjoy my postings.
Swim in the pool and then nap on the pool box. Perfect lazy Summer day.
Been working at lifeguard duty all day. Do I get overtime compensation?
2016/08/08 17:00
Circus exhibit at the Great NY State Fair.

2016/08/16 18:00 It was supposed to storm today. It hasn't yet but the wind is picking up. I took my Dad to a doctor's appointment this morning. He had a test scheduled at Community Hospital. The paperwork took longer than the test. Afterwards Karen and I went to Tous Les Jour for coffee and pastries. Since it wasn't raining I decided to get some more work done on the stairs leading to the new patio. The heat index has got to be well over one hundred. Tough working in the heat and the humidity. Still, I got some work done.
The little baby Elliott having fun in the pool. The pool got a tad green while we were gone for a week. Very "Black Lagoon".
2016/08/24 12:00 I guess today is princess day here at Khan Tiki Mon's Bar and Lounge. Our in house princess Alice and visiting royalty Danielle.
2016/08/14 10:00 Last night we celebrated my Dad's birthday.
I pinned Alice down and made her take a selfie with me. Sorry not sorry.
2016/08/21 10:00 It was another hot day yesterday. The heat index was in the the triple digits again I am sure. Karen did a lot of work on the landscaping around the pool. I trimmed some branches that were hanging too close to the pool. I went to Home Depot and got more supplies for the landscaping. I had my eye on a gas bar-b-que at Ollies. I went to Ollies with the intention of getting it. They were sold out. I figured, well, you snooze you lose. I was checking out with some rubber pavers that we are going to use around the pool. I mentioned that the bar-b-ques were sold out. The guy working the next register said they still had the display model in the back room and that I could have it for sixty dollars off. Sweet! I got a $300 grill for $120.
2016/08/11 23:30 Michael and I went to see "Suicide Squad" tonight. Hot mess. I enjoyed the movie. It wasn't great by any means. It seemed a little off. Can't describe how it was off - it just was. Not much of a review. Sorry.
We went to a birthday party at the Best house today. On the way home we saw the brightest rainbow I have ever seen. And it was a double rainbow.
Camp bath.
2016/08/24 17:00
2016/08/12 14:00 Karen and the little baby Elliott were swimming in the pool and got caught in a downpour. The little boy doesn't know enough to come in out of the rain.
Baby chicks in the Youth Building.
I started building the stairs.
2016/07/08 14:30
The theme was "Finding Dory".
2016/08/23 18:00 Met Trevor at Dairy Queen. Had some ice cream and got some NY State Fair advance sale tickets from the BEA.
2016/08/29 20:00 Karen and I were at the Great NY State Fair today.
Unfortunately the little baby Elliott had a double ear infection and wasn't his usual happy self.
The Methodist Bells band.
Canoe ride on the lake.
2016/07/07 16:00 Letting Alice drive. Is that a bad idea?
2016/08/06 14:00 These girls kept giving me drinks last night.
2016/07/16 18:00 We went to Long Branch Park in Liverpool today to see the world's largest rubber duck.
Progress was made on the stairs today.
Hawaiian shave ice.
Robert feeding Elliott his camp breakfast.
2016/08/14 14:00 Cousins.
The stairs are not done but you can use them if you are careful. With the patio done and some usable stairs Karen can no longer refer derisively to the 'door to nowhere'.
2016/07/15 23:00 I took the kids to Sylvan Beach today.
Alice and Danielle.
The Colin Phills band.
Amanda Rogers, Stephen Douglas Wolfe, Brad Byrd, and the DuPont Brothers.
We rode a shuttle bus to the park.
2016/08/24 23:00 I often ask myself at the end of the day, what did you do today that you were proud of? Sometimes it is a small thing. Today I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for Alice. Peanut butter on both sides. Not too much jelly. I trimmed the crusts and then cut it into 'tiny triangles' just like she likes. She loved it.
Jake in the pool.
More progress on the stairs. The treads are all secured and the railings are functional. The stairs are safe at this point. Not done yet but getting closer.
Enjoying the pool and the Summer.
2016/07/01 17:00 I spent the day at the lake house today.
2016/07/03 17:00 Michael and I went to the races today.
2016/08/13 16:30 We are going to celebrate my Dad's birthday today. I stopped at
Dinosaur Bar-b-que to get some takeout. There were a lot of men there in the bar with no pants. I forgot the Scottish Games were going on out at Long Branch Park in Liverpool.
2016/08/25 20:00 Today was opening day of the Great NY State Fair. I took Tristan, Alice, and the Beardsley kids. I had five kids. On the drive to the fairgrounds the kids were having a spirited discussion on the difference between spying and stalking. The consensus was this; In both cases the subject had to be unawares they were being observed, If you watch your neighbor from a window in your house that's spying. If you follow them to work or the grocery store that's stalking. No judgments were made. When we were getting on the shuttle bus a woman remarked that I was the bravest man she had seen in awhile. Not really. The kids are all awesome. They are very well behaved and they were a pleasure.
Brego.
2016/07/30 17:00
More progress on the stairs.
Back from Hot Rod Hula Hop 8. Had a great time. Sitting by the pool watching Alice ride an alligator.
Camp breakfast.
2016/07/17 23:00 Sub Rosa session #31 with "Teenager".
There were a collection of bounce houses at the park for the kids to play on.
2016/08/13 11:30 Pulled lifeguard duty again.
Last stop of the night was Al's Wine and Whiskey bar for a little jazz...
2016/08/15 13:30 In a surprise development I am lifeguard today. Didn't see that coming. Two new swimmers today. Elsa and Anna.
2016/07/06 17:00
Karen and I were volunteering with PACE pushing wheelchairs.
A serious thunder and lightning storm rolled through and knocked out the power around ten o'clock or so. My Dad was without power for about eight hours.
After the Sub Rosa session I was really hungry. I stopped at Empire Brewing and had a Black Magic Stout and a bowl of Big Easy Gumbo.

2016/08/20 20:00 My cat hates me.
2016/07/28 19:30
What could go wrong?
I don't think this is the pit crew.
I had a wonderful day today. I took Tristan and Alice to Sylvan Beach Amusement Park. Afterwards we walked to Harpoon Eddie’s for lunch. We sat inside in the air conditioning with a table looking out on the beach and the lake. It was a beautiful day until the storm rolled in. One minute it was hot and sunny and the next there were heavy rains. The rains came with a fierce wind and we watched umbrellas, coolers, and small children blow down the beach. The beach was empty in no time. A couple of boats were beached by the storm. After the rains subsided we left the restaurant to head home. I asked the kids for a picture of them under the giant hammerhead shark on the roof. At first Alice declined. Then Tristan said, “Alice, you can do a picture for Pop. He’s the reason for today”.
2016/07/13 20:00
Alice was initially pretty scared of the thunder and lightning. When the lights went out she was very scared. Once we got the lanterns going she calmed down and actually started to have some fun.
Good cupcake.
Storm clouds covering the moon.
Instant princess.
2016/07/23 23:00 It was the little baby Elliott's first birthday party today.
Alice and Danielle swimming in the lake.
We might be going ice skating later. "Let It Go".
2016/08/04 12:00 I picked up a rental car at Enterprise about an hour ago. The clerk at the desk said he was going to put a hold on my credit card for one hundred dollars more than the estimated value of the rental. I said that has got to be over thirty thousand dollars. I don't have that kind of a credit limit. No, he said, one hundred dollars over the estimated rental charges, not the actual value of the rental. Well, that I can do. I will use the car to travel to Columbus, Ohio to attend Hot Rod Hula Hop. I hope to leave around five this afternoon.
I finished a carving I started quite awhile ago. I am giving the carving to PopTiki when I see him at the Hot Rod Hula Hop.
2016/08/27 10:00 This happened thirty three years ago.
2016/07/20 19:00
2016/08/11 09:30 Eat a pepper. For breakfast.
Progress continues.
2016/08/19 10:30 I started this website about nine and a half years ago. At that time mobile wasn't really a big deal. The site has always been designed to look best on a computer. The fact is that more people now look at websites on mobile devices than do on computers or tablets. Some of my stuff just has not displayed well at all on mobile devices. I am doing a major renovation to the site so that all the pages will display better on mobile devices. I still think the site is best viewed on a computer but it will soon look better on smart phones. I have managed to complete overhauls on about ten percent of the site so far. Once the displays have been corrected I am going to start some major content additions. I have large amounts of my collections that have to be added to the site.
2016/07/09 20:00
2016/08/15 10:00 Alice lost her first tooth last night right before bed.
After working on the patio all day we went downtown to Otro Cinco and met Pete and Trevor for drinks and paella.
Bus ride back to the parking lot.
2016/08/27 17:00 Karen was babysitting Jake today. He spent the night last night and he got picked up today about noon. After he left Karen did some more work on the landscaping around the pool. I went to Home Depot to get her supplies; dirt, paving sand, stone, rubber pavers, and edging. All heavy stuff. Tonight I am going to a house concert at Amanda's.
The rants, the rambles, and the ravings continue. Half of this year has passed. I am scared at the way time is passing. Not doing anything doesn’t slow the passage of time. Time moves on regardless. Not doing anything just makes you wonder if you have wasted the time you were given. Your time will eventually run out but time doesn’t really run out; it just continues on without you.
Getting ready to do a final placement for the concrete pavers. They will be mortared onto the concrete pad poured for the patio.
Tristan's first banana split.
We couldn't get all the pavers down in one day. It turns out Karen is better at doing the mortar than I am. She is in charge of putting down the pavers.
2016/08/28 20:00
2016/08/28 09:00 I had a great time last night at Amanda's. Some really good music and some incredible salsa made from her garden.
Headed into town to attend a retirement party. Alice gave me a co-pilot for the trip.
Enjoying the DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) aquariums.
I am continuing to work on upgrading the website to make it display better on mobile. There are currently 108 pages on the website and I have updated 20 of them. Once I have the format fixed on all the pages I will start to add content to my collection pages and finish my event pages. I will post here in the rants section when and where I add content.
