Shriner with Fez.
"The roots of the Shriner’s Fraternity began in 1870, in a New York City restaurant called the Knickerbocker Cottage, where a particularly jovial group of Masons would meet regularly. They often discussed the idea of a new fraternity for Masons that would focus more on fun and fellowship than on stodgy rituals. Two of the table regulars, Walter M. Fleming, M.D., and William J. Florence, and actor, turned the idea into reality. Drawing on the experiences of Florence’s Middle Eastern travels, the two created the ‘Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.’ Dr. Fleming formulated the salutation used by Shriners today: ‘Es Selamu Aleikum!’ which means ‘Peacer be with you!’ In returning the greeting, Shriners say, ‘Aleikum Es Salamu!,’ which means ‘With you be peace.’ Today the Shriners boast a membership of 500,000 in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Panama. From their philanthropic work with Shriners Children’s Hospitals, to driving around in tiny cars, the Shriners continue to embody the the spirit of fun and fellowship."

Elvis Presley - Blue Hawaii.
"It’s sun, surf, and song when the King goes Hawaiian. One of Elvis Presley’s most successful films, Blue Hawaii casts Elvis as heir to a Hawaiian pineapple fortune. His snooty mother wants him to take over the management of the family business, but he’d rather make his own way in the world. When he lands a job at a local tourist agency, the fun ensues. Among the songs featured in the film are the title number and ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love.’ So grab your aloha shirt and join the King and his wahininis for one shack shaking, hula, la, la, Luau."

Dashboard Leilani. “The perfect traveling companion”. The box that my dashboard Leilani came in described her as being the perfect traveling companion and I have to admit she’s been that. I took this picture of Leilani while there was snow out side. She’s still smiling even in the cold.
Lucha Libre. Lucha Libre is Spanish for free wrestling or free fighting. The wrestlers are called Luchadores and they wear colorful masks. There is a connection to Tiki but I’m not sure I can explain the overlap. The surf instrumental group “Los Straightjackets” performs in Lucha Libre masks. Lucha Va Voom is a show popular in California that brings Lucha Libre wrestling and burlesque together with some hot rods thrown in. Whatever the tenuous connection between Tiki, Lucha Libre, hot rods, and burlesque it certainly is only in the current things Tiki and has no historical basis.
Homer Simpson with a Tiki cocktail in a Tiki mug.
Monkey with Fez. The Fez has a place in Tiki. I don’t believe I can explain this one but the monkey wearing a fez with a cocktail is definitely Tiki for me. You'll have to trust me on this one.
